About Jane Burn
A Message from JaneFIND ME ON FACEBOOK!!!!! If you wish to get in touch, please find me on Facebook - look for Jane Burn with the big What is Love? Heart in the pic! I must learn how to add a badge to my site!

Hi - my name is Jane Burn. I have always loved painting and drawing, spent a few years making jewellery and stumbled into sewing when I joined a class when I needed to make my own curtains. This branched out into embroidery, which is very addictive! I also love dolls houses and am crazy about model horses. There are so many wonderful crafts out there it has been hard for me to stick to just the one - so I don’t!

I have spent the last year and a half working within the Giftware industry and have really enoyed it! I work well to deadlines and have no problem coming up with new ideas no matter what the area you might need an artist/designer for, be it illustration, giftware design, painting, writing or sculpture.

Ideas are the stuff of life and I love new ones. Please keep scrolling down the page to look at the many different categories!!!!!

GiftwareThis section deals with my growing involvment in designing for the giftware industry.
What is Love? This is a range that developed from a book I had written. The images and sentiments withiin inspired me to design this highly decorative, original range. The range will continue to be expanded with new designs throughout 2011.
What is Love Products January 2011Here are the completed items and packaging produced from my designs. Contact Enesco for stockists / prices / orders.
What is Love original artworkHere are some of my original watercolours produced for this project.
'Butterfly Mirage' - Wood and DecoupageThese products are handmade by myself and my husband and are sold either here or at various craft markets around the north east. They are MDF based handy household items decorated with prints of my original artwork. I like to think of it as decoupage for the 21st century!
My Work With Model Horses I am displaying the work I have done since I discovered model horses here and have organised it chronologically. I have divided the customising into separate sections as the work involved for each type of custom is very different. Some are just painted, some are altered to a greater or lesser degree with sculpting work.

Customised Models
Artist Resins With Custom Work 2007This section is for resin models that I have re-worked. For example, I may have resculpted the mane and tail or moved the head or legs as well as prepping and painting them.
Sculptures/Medallions/Unpainted Work 2007I am branching out into unpainted work as it is my dream to produce a sculpture eventually. I am beginning by doing collaborations with other artists so that I can learn to "let go" as when I do a sculpture, they would be painted by other artists as well. There are certain aspects of the process you can't always control so I am gauging how it feels.

I am also putting pictures here of collaborations I have done with other artists on their unpainted work.
2006 - Repaints Done by Myself This section is for plastic models that I have simply prepped and repainted.
2006 - Customised Models This section is for plastic models that I have re-worked. For example, I may have resculpted the mane and tail or moved the head or legs as well as prepping and repainting them.

Handlers/Riders/Performance - Fata viam invenient I thought I had given up performance but for some reason I find I'm starting to enjoy a little of it! I will never have the patience to do those wonderful dressage and jumping set ups - but I thought I might do a little simple stuff for my own amusement. :-)

I have also included pictures of set ups I have made in the past.
Tack Gallery - fides, sed cui vide When you have collected your horses, it follows that you will want to dress them up in authentic tack...
When I first discovered the hobby this was my favourite part and involved all my jewellery and stitching skills as it’s on such a small scale.

Arts And Crafts
Gardening!!!I have been trying for a few years now to learn a little about gardening - green fingered I am not!!! Last year I tried lots of seeds and seedlings and this year I have been rewarded with a bit of growth! I find its like looking after pets - gardens need a lot of attention. I am so over the moon to have had some small successes, that I thought I would take some pics of what has grown.
Pen & Ink Pictures by MyselfA selection of pictures using the medium of pen & ink to create great detail.
Other Crafts/HobbiesIf you have a hobby that you want to talk about, please feel free to send anything in and hopefully you’ll meet up with some fellow crafters!

Embroideries/AppliqueThis is a passion of mine and as anyone will tell you, this is a really addictive hobby. Very hard to put down! I have put up pictures of my work, and hope you will send in pictures of yours. Let’s celebrate this beautiful and intricate hobby.
Other artworks by myself
My Old IncarnationI was a designer jeweller/silversmith for many years before I was married and had a family. It is what I originally trained in and I ran my own business for many years. I thought I would include pictures of some of the work I did at this time.
Other Horse Collections etcIf anyone would like to see how my collection fare, here are some pictures. I have also included pictures of a few of my customs that belong to other people. Live shows are scary but well worth the effort, though they do take it out of you! I have completed my two years as a Newcomer in August 2008 and have so far attended a many shows myself and a couple with my models being shown by proxy.

I'll be taking a bit of a break from the live show circuit this year. I have become a little jaded with them and feel I need to take a back seat during 2009. Live shows use a lot of time and emotion; they take away a lot of my customising time which I'd like to recover throughout this year. I will only be doing the bare minimum.
China models I enjoy collectingChina horses or "clinkies" are something I have been growing more and more fond of recently. Here are mine so far - I always hope to have more!!!! :-)
TCB Current ShowstringNot every model in the string will be out at the same time- it would be madness to try and show all these at once!

Some are retired and some move on to new homes - so I am keeping a record of who's going where here too.
MHU Shows
Hartland HorsesI have made a seperate section for these little models - my interest in these has grown and grown since my husband bough me one for a birthday present three years ago. Now I cant stop buying them, and my favourite thing is to customise them. They come in a wide varitey of shapes and sizes.
Other CTFI have placed the rest of my other CTF collection here - flockies, Safaris, Schleichs, MBH etc
MECS
Other Shows
Prizes
Commercial Resins and Original Finish Models Commercial resins are mass produced and usually have a factory finish. They are made by such companies as Border Fine Arts, Wade North Light, Sandicast, Leonardo etc.
Dolls
HousesThis is another hobby that I stumbled into by accident….it seems to be the way with me. My sister got one which she began to ‘do up’ with her husband, and I’m afraid that I saw it and had to have one! What an incredible, fascinating hobby, and a great way to own a splendid country residence or a smart town house without taking out a hefty mortgage!
Wedding dolls I collect wedding dolls - I have always been wedding mad! Have a look at my collection so far, and feel free to send pictures of any dolls you collect. I am also collecting other dolls now too.
Other Dolls
Tudor / Medieval / Historical DollsYou will find this section full of myriad historical costume innacuracies - this is just me having fun combining my love of dolls with my love of history :-)
Portraits
AnimalsI love to do portraits of animals that I see when I’m out and about. Here are some I made earlier.

Rockwoods Ochre OrcaI am going to dedicate a section of my website to a new and most welcome suprise addition to the family - an anniversary present from my husband this year. Purchased on the 6th October 2009, please meet Rockwoods Ochre Orca, a stunning Gypsy Vanner Colt. I was the first human to touch him - he was until I met him 100% unhandled - we have spent the last few weeks getting to know each other at Orcas own pace.

UPDATE - Orca is "Mr May" in the 2011 CHAPS calendar. To say I am proud is an understatement!!!!!
First Few WeeksI spent a long time just in the field with Orca and the other horses. He got used to me mooching about and lost a lot of his suspicion. I thought this would be a good thing to do to get him more used to human contact - I also thought that it would be better for him that he knew someone when he came to his new home.
Settling Into His New HomeHe was delivered on the 10th November 2009 and I stabled him for the first week.
The Field BuddiesHe had some new friends to make too - two lovely British Spotted Ponies thats I also help to look after following the sad death of their owner, and two very funny sheep!
Relaxing and getting to know each otherThere has been much for Orca to take in over the last few weeks - and now that he is here, he needs to be able to chill out, learn to relax and fully get used to his new friends and new surroundings.
A New Home, A New AdventureWhile my first priority was to find a calm, quiet, private home for Orca, with all important sensible equine company where we could begin to learn and bond, I always knew that at some point soon we would outgrow the place. That time has come for us, and so we have moved Orca to a centre with the facilities to further his education, and help him experience so many things important to our future life together.
Another MoveI wasnt truly happy with the place I have been keeping him at, so today we moved Orca to the Heddon Laws stud and Preparation Centre. I have a feeling he will be happy here for the forseeable future.
Horsebox Project
LessonsLearning, learning, learning. It never stops. I like to learn all I can about equine body language - working with older, more experienced horses is very helpful.
On the Road AgainI have moved Orca again - this time to the Glenwood Stud - they do a lot of in hand showing - they specialise in a number of horses - sport horses, coloureds and connemaras to name a few. They have a number of amazing stallions there at stud. I am lucky enough to have got a part time job here as well as moving Orca to this yard, where I can get really specialist help.
ShowsThe horsebox is finished, the training is progressing - so we have decided to give it a go!
